The UK première of The Shawshank Redemption is coming to the Wyndham’s Theatre.
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
Following a sell out season at the Gaiety Dublin, the UK première of ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ opens at Wyndham’s Theatre on Sunday 13 September with previews from Friday 4 September. The season runs until Sunday 14 February 2010.
This new play by Owen O’Neill and Dave Johns is based on the 1982 Stephen King novell ‘Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption’. The cast of 20 is led by Reg E Cathey and Kevin Anderson. It is directed by Peter Sheridan, with design by Ferdia Murphy, sound by Denis Clohessy and lighting by Kevin Treacy. The Shawshank Redemption is presented by Paul Elliott, Breda Cashe, Pat Moylan and David Ian.
Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and sent to the notorious Shawshank Prison to serve two life sentences. Stripped of his life, family and freedom, Andy is forced to endure a spirit-crushing routine. But with his quiet strength and inner courage there is one thing that Andy never loses - hope.
This moving story of courage, friendship and hope inspired the 1994 Award winning film. Stephen King’s work has been translated into 33 languages.
Kevin Anderson’s best known film role is in ‘Sleeping With the Enemy’ with Julia Roberts. His most recent stage role was in ‘Salome’ with Al Pacino. Other roles include his Award winning performance as Biff in ‘Death of A Salesman’ on Broadway in 1999.

In New York he appeared in ‘Macbeth’, ‘The Taming of The Shrew’ New York Shakespeare Festival and in Julie Taymor’s Broadway production of ‘The Green Bird’.
Award winning director Peter Sheridan co-founded the Project Theatre Company with his brother Jim. His writing credits there include ‘The Liberty Suit’ and ‘Emigrants’ which transferred to the Royal Court. His plays have been performed in New York and Los Angeles. His film credits include ‘Borstal Boy’ in 2000. Dave Johns and Owen O’Neill have performed in all major comedy venues and comedy Festivals worldwide.
